Mist & Moss: a free watercolour logic puzzle you play in the browser

Mist & Moss is a watercolour logic puzzle you play for free in your browser. Lantern light has to reach every sleeping seed in a misty forest, and you get there by turning mirrors and nudging coloured stones around the board. There is no download, no sign-up and no timer — just 30 hand-set levels and a three-leaf score for tidy solutions.

We gave Lantern Grid the same tap-first controls, so a level started on the train can be finished at home without relearning anything.

What is Mist & Moss?

Mist & Moss is a browser-based logic puzzle in which you turn mirrors and move colour stones so lantern light wakes every sleeping seed in a misty forest.

The board is a small forest clearing painted in soft watercolour. A lantern sits at one edge and a handful of seeds sleep in the moss. Between them you find mirrors on pivots and loose colour stones you can shift from square to square until the light finds its way through.

Every level has a fixed set of pieces, so nothing is random and nothing is hidden behind luck. You are not racing a clock; you are trimming a route. That is why the game feels closer to a crossword than to an arcade title — quiet, exact, and easy to leave and return to later.

How do mirrors, crystals and colour mixing work?

Mirrors turn the lantern beam, crystals split it into two, and when two different colours meet at a seed they mix into the shade that seed needs.

Light leaves the lantern as a straight beam. Tap a mirror and it rotates, sending that beam off along a new row or column. A crystal behaves differently: it divides the light rather than simply bending it, so one beam becomes two thinner ones heading in separate directions.

Colour mixing is where the real thinking begins. Send red light to a seed that wants yellow and nothing useful happens. Bring red and green together at the right seed instead and you get the mix it was waiting for. Two colours, one seed, one correct answer.

Because light paths cross and overlap, a careless mirror early in the beam usually ruins a seed much further along. Trace the whole route before you move anything. The board is small enough that a full plan takes seconds, not minutes.

Is Mist & Moss free, and do you need an account?

It is completely free and needs no account, no subscription and no download — open the page and the puzzle starts.

You will not be asked for an email address, a password or card details. There is no trial window, no locked chapter and no paywall sitting behind level twenty. All 30 levels are open from the moment the page loads.

That matters more than it sounds. Browser puzzles often gate later levels or break play with adverts between moves. This one does neither, so a ten-minute break at lunch stays a ten-minute break.

Everything on Gameoto is free to open in a browser, with no membership and nothing to install on your device.

Can you play Mist & Moss on a phone or tablet?

Yes — the game runs in a mobile browser, and the controls are taps rather than drags, so a small screen works perfectly well.

Mirrors and stones both respond to a tap, which suits a phone held in one hand on a bus. On a tablet the board is generous enough to plan two or three moves ahead without zooming in. A laptop or desktop screen still gives the widest view of the forest.

Nothing changes between devices. Your solution on a phone is the same solution on a desktop, and the move counter does not care which one you used.

We gave Lantern Grid the same tap-first controls, so a level started on the train can be finished at home without relearning anything.

How do you earn three leaves?

Three leaves go to the shortest solution, because the score is built on move count rather than time spent on the level.

Scoring runs on moves, not minutes. The cleanest route to three leaves is the shortest one, so wasted turns cost you even when the level still ends in a win. There is no penalty at all for thinking slowly.

A useful habit: count the mirrors you will need before you touch a single one. Most wasted moves come from turning a mirror, watching the beam land in the wrong place, and turning it back again. Nothing in Mist & Moss is timed, so pause and trace the light with your finger first.

Seeds are the other thing to watch. Wake them in the wrong order and you may have to reroute light you already had working. Start from the seed that is hardest to reach.

What should you play after Mist & Moss?

After the thirtieth clearing, Gameoto's library holds other free browser puzzles and arcade games, all open without an account.

Thirty hand-set levels go faster than you expect, especially once colour mixing clicks. When they run out, the site keeps going where the forest stops — logic boards, quick arcade runs, strategy pieces, all in the same browser tab.

If you fancy something lighter between levels, Bloom Bounce sits a couple of clicks away in the same library. There is a short note on who makes these games on the about page if you like knowing where a puzzle came from.

Nothing you play requires a password, so trying three games in an evening costs you nothing but the evening.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to download Mist & Moss?

No. It runs in the browser tab you already have open, on phone, tablet or computer. Nothing is installed and no plugin is needed.

How many levels are there?

Thirty, all hand-set rather than generated, so each one has a deliberate solution worked out in advance.

Is there a timer on the levels?

None at all. You can leave a half-finished clearing open for an hour and nothing punishes you for it.

What earns three leaves?

Your move count. Solve the level in the fewest moves and the three leaves are yours; extra turns cost you some of them.

Can I play without signing up?

Yes. There is no login, no email form and no subscription anywhere in the game.
